Bob and I, along and our adult daughters, are going on a trip to Hawaii tomorrow morning! I am soooooo excited. We have been planning this for months and I can hardly believe the trip is finally here. The girls are only staying a few days for our tropical family vacation and then Bob and I will be staying for another week on our own little second honeymoon.
Our daughter found us a good deal and booked us into a couple of different exciting locations!
I must admit that I have had a lot of anxiety about this trip and a lot of trouble getting organized, but now it is too late for me to do anything different. No more lists. No more shopping, no more planning how to pack or planning where to stay. All I can do is get on that plane.
I went back and forth about just how I was going to manage physically on this trip. I have not been using the walker for months now, but I also have not been doing as much walking or challenging moving as I was a year ago. I am finding that my new knee brace is a really big help but I don't think it will be enough. The knee brace makes my knee feel a lot better, but when I wear it I find that my ankle gives out much faster for some reason.
My family will do all they can to help me but I still can't imagine how I will carry my luggage, stand in lines and still do all that I want to do and only hang on to my cane. We decided that I am going to take the walker, and the knee brace, and the ankle brace and yes the cane!
I am ready for adventure!

That is big news! I hope you all have a grand time--I envy how warm you will be.
How exciting! I've never been to Hawaii, but would like to. Have a blast!
One thing I regretted when we went to Sweden was that airport staff always offered help - a cart - and I always said,"No, thank you." In the Stockholm airport, I was exhausted by the time I got to the gate and Tom was nervous: because I was so slow, he thought we'd miss the plane. But we got there in plenty of time.
Also, I wore my brace on the airplanes because it was too big to pack and I wanted to have it "just in case."
Also, the stupid new security systems look at you with your arms lifted over your head - something I couldn't do, but they let me through anyway.
When I went through the regular security lines, I picked the "medical/family line, which was always much shorter. To go through the scanner, though, they asked me to walk through without my (metal) cane, which I could do, but not without my shoes, so they checked my shoes for bombs just after I made it through the metal detector.
Have the best time ever!
Have a great time!
We traveled over the summer, and asked for a wheelchair. I hated having to do that, but it was so much easier. And faster, too--we didn't have to wait in the regular security line.
So great!! Were hoping to make it to Hawaii next year!! Congratulations and have a great time. Aloha!! I hope your body cooperates to allow a true "vacation". :)
Have a blast!!!!!!
I check my bags st the curb with a Sky Cap who issues me a boarding pass so there are no lines to wait in or luggage to carry. The going rate is $2 dollars per bag, BUT I go from the curb straight to the boarding gate hands free. I always ask for a wheelchair because the employee takes me to the front of the security line and helps me deal with not being able to walk thru the metal detector in my stocking feet. Call your airline NOT the airport to reserve a wheelchair. The Sky Cap will call for the wheelchair when he checks you in.
I hope you will be enjoy these holidays. I think your daughter is very smart as you described that she found a good deal and booked your vacation.
